Deliveroo Singapore commemorates National Day by celebrating the Singaporean spirit of giving back in new initiative with Food from the Heart
26 July 2021
This National Day, Deliveroo Singapore has partnered with its long-term CSR partner, Food from the Heart (FFTH), to encourage more people to come together and do their part to help the community. The partnership will see Deliveroo supporting the charity organisation's Project Belanja! programme, a hot food redemption initiative run in collaboration with local hawker stall owners to provide the less fortunate in Singapore with freshly-cooked meals. The initiative is part of Deliveroo's global community-focused campaign, Full Life, which aims to utilise its unique network of riders, restaurants and grocers to support communities in cities where Deliveroo operates.
To kick start the partnership, Deliveroo has waived its onboarding fee and welcomed new hawker stalls, including Jack's Kitchen, Xin Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice and Weng Hua Yuan Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice, onto its platform. The hawkers have been given the opportunity to participate in the programme and, at the same time, create new revenue streams amid heightened COVID-19 restrictions in place until 18 August. From 26 July to 8 August, Deliveroo will further support these new hawker stalls and over 500 beneficiaries of the Project Belanja! programme by donating $10,000 worth of meals.
Beneficiaries can use the QR code on their FFTH beneficiary card to redeem meals for up to 15 meals per month for each person. The cards are scanned on a mobile app used by partnering hawker stall vendors, where redemption data is tracked to better understand and serve the beneficiaries.
Deliveroo customers can play their part from home by ordering a meal from Project Belanja! stalls
From 26 July to 8 August, Deliveroo customers can support the cause and local hawkers during the dine-in ban from home by feeding themselves and the less fortunate. Customers just need to order a meal from any of the five participating Project Belanja! hawker stalls and Deliveroo will match and donate the value of all meals purchased during the period, up to the first S$10,000 worth of meals. The donations will go towards FFTH's Project Belanja! fund, which will provide over 2,000 meals to over 500 beneficiaries in Singapore.
"As a socially responsible company, we are continuously searching for ways that the company and our customers can support those in need. This initiative is particularly exciting as we can also lend a hand to hawkers and help them to extend their sales and reach through delivery as Singapore returns to Phase Two (Heightened Alert). The hawker culture, in particular, is an integral part of many Singaporeans' lives, and we want to do our best to keep hawkers' livelihoods and culture alive. We want to spread the National Day spirit and hope to count on our customers' continued support to raise funds for FFTH's Project Belanja! to help feed more beneficiaries, especially important during these challenging times. We believe that together with FFTH and the support of our customers, we can make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries," said Sarah Tan, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.
"We have previously collaborated with Deliveroo to support Food from the Heart's various initiatives last year. This year, our collaboration will support Project Belanja! which provides our beneficiaries who do not have time to cook, are physically unable to cook or wish to have variety in their meals. We believe this collaborative effort will positively impact the lives of our beneficiaries giving them the option of hot cooked meals and the dignity of choice. We look forward to another meaningful and successful partnership with Deliveroo in our efforts to alleviate hunger in the community together," said Sim Bee Hia, CEO of Food from the Heart.
"I can just show my card when I order my food instead of counting meal vouchers. There are many stalls to choose from. I can enjoy different types of food every day," said Mr Tan, a Project Belanja! beneficiary who is very happy with the variety of meals that he can redeem through the app-driven food programme.
The Full Life campaign follows Deliveroo's continued efforts to support all sides of the community in Singapore, especially important amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Its partnership with FFTH is a long-standing one, and past collaborations focused on tackling food insecurity among children, with focused initiatives around contributions to philanthropic causes and community service. Deliveroo customers in Singapore have also generously rallied to donate over $50,000 for the charity organisation since December last year, with Deliveroo matching the first $10,000 worth of donations, bringing the total to over $60,000.
